True Ambassadors Empower Residents with Digital Skills Training

On March 18, 2025, True Ambassadors hosted another successful Tuesday session at the Plaistow Community Centre as part of their Digital Inclusion Programme. Emily from iFoundMe Counselling led the interactive workshop. It saw enthusiastic participation from residents, discussing various aspects of digital skills. As technologies continue to shape social and economic landscapes, digital search methods become increasingly crucial for understanding contemporary phenomena. These methods also help in informing decision-making across various sectors.Information Systems Digital Transformation | Newcastle University Business School | Newcastle University

The session focused on essential skills, with participants learning about the technology economy and practical applications of search.

A highlight of the day was the Tech Bingo activity, which encouraged residents to move around the hall. This fostered a lively and engaging atmosphere. Bingo Breaks the Ice and Drives Event Engagement—Stova.

The session had a significant positive impact on residents’ confidence in using technology:

  1. Increased knowledge: Residents learned new skills, such as navigating Google. They also learned how to conduct online searches on topics important to them within the digital economy. The digital economy refers to economic activities that rely on technologies, particularly the Internet and related technologies. These activities include the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. It encompasses various online activities, including e-commerce, digital platforms, and the gig economy. At True Ambassadors, we believe allowing our community to benefit from this awareness will build their confidence and include enhanced capabilities.
  2. Enhanced interaction: The Tech Bingo activity encouraged residents to move from their seats and interact with each other. It fostered engagement and confidence in using technology in a social setting.
  3. Improved digital literacy: Participants gained confidence in navigating the internet and using search engines. These are essential digital skills in the digital economy.
  4. Reduced isolation: The session helped combat social isolation by providing opportunities for residents to connect with others through technology. NHS England » Inclusive digital healthcare: a framework for NHS action on digital inclusion
  5. Increased independence: Similar programs have shown that up to 78% of participants feel more independent after such training sessions. The Tech?! returns to in-person sessions, helping locals over 50s with tech | Imperial News | Imperial College London.

As the CEO of True Ambassadors, I had the opportunity to address the residents. I emphasised the importance of learning with enjoyment. I stressed that there are no exams at the end of these sessions. Instead, the goal is to increase awareness of the digital economy, take charge of one’s life, and gain confidence in navigating the internet and using search engines.

The event also included a communal lunch, reinforcing social connections and combating isolation. This initiative aligns with True Ambassadors’ commitment to ensuring residents are not isolated and improving connection and intimacy in the community.

The session concluded with resident-led dance steps, adding a fun and physical element to the day’s activities. This participatory approach demonstrates True Ambassadors’ holistic strategy in addressing digital inclusion and well-being.

True Ambassadors sincerely thank Canada Life UK for their generous donation through the Neighbourly platform. Their support enables us to do more for our residents and expand our community initiatives in the digital economy.

These efforts reflect the growing importance of digital inclusion and community support. This is highlighted in the UK’s Digital Strategy.

As we spent time with residents at True Ambassadors, we developed a more profound empathy and understanding of community bonding. This enhanced insight allowed us to provide more effective support and create more prosperous learning opportunities for all participants. Our interactions fostered a sense of belonging and inclusivity, which is essential for building a strong, resilient community. By cultivating these connections, we were able to tailor our programs to better address the unique needs and aspirations of our residents. This ultimately strengthened the fabric of our community and empowered individuals to thrive together in the economy through focused support.

True Ambassadors’ work demonstrates how local organisations can effectively implement national strategies to create more connected and resilient communities.

As an independent UK charity, True Ambassadors continues to play a vital role. They are strengthening community bonds and empowering residents in Newham. By providing a safe and inspiring environment for learning and social interaction, the organisation is actively working to reduce isolation. They are improving overall well-being in the community.
