On February 11, 2025, True Ambassadors hosted an engaging session featuring Emily and Ruben Lewis from I Found Me – Therapeutic Counselling. Residents participated in a hands-on workshop where they learned to create various greeting cards and posters using Canva, a user-friendly graphic design platform. The participants thoroughly enjoyed the learning process, and seeing them quickly grasp new digital skills was inspiring.
This initiative is particularly significant given the current digital landscape in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics, while the gap in internet usage between older adults and younger age groups is narrowing, a substantial number of individuals over the age of 65 still lack basic digital skills. In 2018, only 39% of those over 65 reported accessing the internet “on the go,” indicating a need for increased digital engagement among older populations.
The UK’s Digital Strategy: GOV.UK emphasizes the importance of digital inclusion, highlighting that over £9.5 million has been invested to support nearly 800,000 people in gaining basic digital skills through various programs. gov.uk
Despite these efforts, challenges persist, especially among older adults.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to Canada UK, Neighbourly, and all our supporters for their generous contributions. Your support enables us to continue empowering our community and making digital skills accessible to those who need them most.
Independent charities like True Ambassadors-Independent Charitable Organisation UK are crucial in bridging this digital divide. By offering accessible and tailored digital literacy sessions, we empower residents who lack the opportunity to gain basic IT knowledge. Our programs are designed to build confidence in navigating the digital world, ensuring that all community members can participate fully in today’s technology-driven society.
At True Ambassadors, digital literacy is a right, not a privilege, and we will continue working towards an inclusive, digitally empowered community.
Together, we are bridging the digital divide!
