True Ambassadors’ Health and Wellbeing Session Raises Cancer Awareness and Nutrition

On the 1st of October 2024, our independent UK charitable organisation, True Ambassadors, hosted another memorable session as part of our “Health and Wellbeing for All” project. This initiative is part of the broader People, Powered, Places programme, which allows Newham residents to actively shape and improve their local community. Like every Tuesday, it was held at the Plaistow Community Centre. This week, the focus was on cancer awareness and the vital role nutrition plays in its prevention and management. The topic was expertly covered by our volunteer the dietitian Huma Shafeeq.

The session was filled with a mix of emotions, but as always, it was informative and engaging for everyone involved. Huma’s presentation, “Cancer and Nutrition Intervention,” gave attendees a comprehensive look into how dietary choices can greatly impact cancer outcomes. She highlighted the importance of being aware of the types of foods that can help reduce cancer risk. She also explained how nutritional interventions can support those already undergoing treatment. Her insights were both educational and a powerful reminder that making informed decisions about our diet can have a significant effect on our health.

The session stirred mixed feelings among attendees, reflecting the seriousness of the topic. For many, cancer is a personal issue, and Huma’s talk resonated deeply. Despite the emotional nature of the subject, there was a strong sense of hope throughout the session. Knowing that awareness, prevention, and proper nutrition offer real ways to fight against cancer left attendees feeling empowered. This hope and sense of empowerment became a key takeaway from the discussion.

Our UK-based independent charitable organisation, True Ambassadors, remains dedicated to providing the community with essential health information. This session was another important step in our mission to promote wellbeing and proactive healthcare. The People Powered Places Project continues to be a valuable platform for delivering discussions that enable individuals to take control of their health and make informed decisions.

We extend our sincere thanks to Huma Shafeeq for her invaluable contribution to this week’s session, and to all attendees who participated and supported the event. As a charity ambassador, we look forward to future sessions where we will continue addressing critical health issues, furthering our goal of fostering a healthier and more informed community.
