On 24th October 2024, our UK independent charity, True Ambassadors, attended the “Driving Change in Local Communities & the UN SDGs” conference. The event took place at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, London. It was hosted by Unmesh Desai, GLA Member for City & East, and explored the vital role local communities play in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference featured speakers who discussed how grassroots efforts are tackling global issues like poverty, inequality, and climate action. Key topics included youth empowerment, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable education. The speakers shared real-world examples of how local actions can drive global progress. They highlighted the importance of equipping young people with the skills to lead and innovate. They also showed how socially conscious businesses play a role in promoting social and economic growth.
After the conference, Rotary in London hosted a special reception for World Polio Day. Led by Leonie Cooper, a GLA member, the event honoured Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio through the PolioPlus Programme. Created to combat polio, Rotary’s infrastructure now also supports efforts against other diseases. This reception served as a strong reminder of the impact that community-focused organisations can have on global health.
For our independent UK charity organisation, True Ambassadors, this conference was a powerful reminder of our mission to bring positive change to our community. The focus on sustainable development and local leadership aligns closely with our goals. We are dedicated to tackling important issues like mental health, social inequality, and education. At True Ambassadors, we believe that a supportive and fair society starts with active involvement and partnerships, just as the speakers emphasised.
True Ambassadors is grateful for the opportunity to attend the Driving Change in Local Communities & the UN SDGs Conference. It has strengthened our commitment to launching projects that address diverse community needs. By working closely with our volunteers, donors, and partners, we aim to make a lasting, positive impact that helps individuals and communities thrive. We look forward to building on this experience and continuing our efforts to drive meaningful change in local communities.
