True Ambassadors Hosts Interactive Food Science Event for British Science Week 2025

On March 11, 2025, True Ambassadors organised an engaging British Science Week event focusing on food science and technology. The event brought together residents to explore the fascinating world of edible science through hands-on experiments and informative presentations British Science Week 2025: Adapting to the changing food landscape – Food Standards Agency. In many ways, it was a lesson in how we all need to adapt to change.

Fizzing Lemonade Experiment

Doris Ekos Okundaye, CEO of True Ambassadors, led an exciting demonstration on how to make fizzing lemonade. Using a PowerPoint presentation, she guided residents through a step-by-step process of preparing the drink using fresh lemons, water, and soda, such as The Fizzy Lemonade Experiment – Little Bins for Little Hands. This experiment was another great example of innovations in food science and technology.

The experiment showcased the Principles of Acid-Base Reactions,

Demonstrating how mixing lemon juice (an acid) with soda (a base) produces carbon dioxide, which creates bubbles in commercial fizzy drinks. Participants could create and taste their fizzy lemonade, bringing science to life in a delicious way. The interactive nature of the experiment highlighted core principles of food science and technology successfully.

Residents were fascinated by the experiment,

Eagerly participating and experimenting with different quantities of ingredients. Many expressed delight at learning how to prepare a simple fizzy drink at home, with some even suggesting variations to try in the future Top 50 Fun Food Science Experiments – Education Corner. This shows how easy it is to adapt to change when it comes to preparing new recipes, proving once again the importance of food science and technology.

Nutrition and Dietary Insights

Following the lemonade experiment, Shane Telemacque, a nutritionist, presented informative slides prepared by Breanna De Jong, a Newham nutritionist who could not attend due to health issues. The presentation highlighted the significance of nutrition and its strong connection to food science and technology.

Shareen Akhtar then engaged the audience in an interactive session, encouraging residents to discuss their daily eating habits as part of exploring food science and technology. This activity promoted awareness of dietary choices and their impact on overall health.

Community Engagement and Feedback

The event provided an excellent opportunity for community members to engage with scientific concepts in a fun and accessible manner. Residents were pleased to participate, with many expressing enthusiasm about the hands-on nature of the activities related to food science and technology.

The Q&A session that followed

Allowed residents to ask questions and share their thoughts, further enhancing the learning experience. Many participants commented on how the event helped them understand the role of food science and technology in everyday life, particularly in terms of food and nutrition, and how science can help them adapt to change.

Importance of Science in Everyday Life

The British Science Week event underscored science’s crucial role in daily life. True Ambassadors thanked the British Science Community Fund for making this event possible, emphasizing how such initiatives foster enthusiasm for science and community engagement. Breaking the Stereotypes

One of the things True Ambassadors is most passionate about is changing perceptions of STEM. For too long, there’s been this idea that STEM subjects are just for the “super smart” or that they’re “nerdy.” Thankfully, perceptions are changing, and British Science Week provides a fantastic opportunity to challenge outdated notions. STEM is for everyone. It’s creative, it’s exciting, and it’s full of opportunities to make a real difference in the world. Celebrating STEM during British Science Week | National Statistical
